Scotland is well known for its rugged landscapes, beautiful scenery and spectacular views, and getting to see the best of this is a key part of any visitors itinerary! From dramatic coastlines, castles, ruins and more, there are so many incredible spots that offer the most breathtaking sights of Scotland. This list has been hard to compose, but here are our top 10 views across the country!

  1. The Three Sisters, Glencoe

The most photographed landmark in all of Glencoe, the three impressive ridges on the Bidean Nam Bian Mountain are widely known as the three sisters. Individually named Aonach Dubh, Beinn Fhada, and Gearr Aonach,

the rugged and dramatic terrain of the towering mountains can be viewed from the roadside, and is a very popular spot for tourist and locals combined!

The contrast between the vibrant green down in the glen, to the steep cliffsides and the sky, offer the most breathtaking views; pictures and words cannot not capture just how amazing this place is! There are many viewpoints along the A82, making this an easy place to stop and experience for everyone.

2. Butt of Lewis, Isle of Lewis

Located at the most northern point of the Outer Hebrides on the Isle of lewis, you can visit a truly incredible area called the Butt of Lewis. Looking out over into the Atlantic Ocean, the rugged cliffs and coastline that you will find here is spectacular. Some of the oldest rock in Europe, Lewiston Gneiss is found here, and you will very often spot a whole heap of wildlife, particularly seabirds nesting in and around it. It feels like you are at the edge of the world here, where the sky meets the sea. The Butt of Lewis Lighthouse is a key feature of this location, and with the picturesque backdrop, makes for a fantastic view and photo opportunity.

3. Loch Morlich, Aviemore

Just at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountains, Loch Morlich offers visitors idyllic views and landscapes. It is completely surrounded by the Caledonian Pine Forest, so this spot feels extremely peaceful and secluded from everything else.

The water is usually extremely still and calm, and so the mirrored reflection of the mountains and trees on the water is just fantastic to look at. You can also find sandy beaches around the Loch, a perfect spot for relaxing and just enjoying the natural spaces of Scotland.

4. Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh

Located in the City Centre of Edinburgh, you will find Arthur’s Seat, a popular hillclimb that offers amazing panoramic views of the city at the top! The highest point in Holyrood Park, after you complete the steep climb, you will be able to spot landmarks from all around the city, including the Firth and Forth, Edinburgh Castle, and sometimes the North Sea on a clear day! The blend of natural scenery with the thriving city is a great place to visit in Scotland, and a great reward after an adventurous climb.

5. Glenfinnan Viewpoint, Fort William

The Glenfinnan Viewpoint is the best place for viewing the infamous Glenfinnan Viaduct. This iconic structure is a highly popular destination for tourists, and the viewpoint is ideal for capturing the structure and watching the Jacobite Steam Train crossing over.

The surrounding landscape is incredible, and this viewpoint lets you take it all at once in from an elevated spot. The natural beauty and history tied to the viaduct and this part of Scotland is incredible, and a must see!

6. Dunnottar Castle, Aberdeenshire

Sitting on the edge of rocky cliffs on the east coast of Scotland, you will find Dunnottar Castle. The location of these medieval ruins is incredible, perched high on the outcrop and looking over the North Sea, you will have panoramic views of the landscape, a great place for photography and just enjoying the marvelous scenery. The culturally rich and historical architecture against the beautiful backdrop makes for a must see on your trip to Scotland!

7. The Callanish Standing Stones, Lewis

The Callanish Standing stones are over 5000 years old, and are a really magical sight for visitors. Locates on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis, the stones stand tall against the local landscape, and make for a visually intriguing experience.

The cross and circle arrangement of the stones is striking, and depending on the time of day and weather present when you visit, the light can offer beautiful visual effects as it reflects on the stones and their shadows are cast all around.

8. The Fairy Pools, Skye

Found on the Isle of Skye, the Fairy Pools are an extremely popular destination for visitors. The series of small pools and waterfalls contain crystal clear waters, and are a thing of natural beauty. Sitting before the Black Cuillin Mountains, a visit to these pools is visually stunning, the combination of the pools and the surrounding landscape is just incredible. 9. Loch Maree

In the North West of the Scottish Highlands, you can visit Loch Maree in Wester Ross. The Loch features 66 small islands, and with various viewpoints and lookout spots along the A832, you can easily stop and enjoy the marvelous scenery and landscape that engulfs this impressive loch.

The ancient pinewoods of Beinn Eighe Nature reserve engulf the waters, and this wild area is protected, with little development, so you can fully enjoy the natural environment here, a great place for wildlife and landscape photography.

10. Quiraing, Isle of Skye

The unique geological formations that can be found at the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye are certainly one of the best views in Scotland. The ongoing landslide and rugged cliffs mean this is a forever changing landscape. From the Quiraing you can view out to islands such as Raasay over the Atlantic Ocean, and gaze upon the Trotternish Ridge. The otherworldly appearance of this area is unlike any other in the country, and certainly a must see when here in Scotland.
