The Old Man of Storr: Nature's Majestic Sculpture

Venture into the mystical embrace of the Trotternish Ridge to encounter the iconic Old Man of Storr. This natural rock formation, resembling an ancient sentinel, offers hikers a thrilling ascent and panoramic views that stretch across the Isle of Skye.

As you navigate the rugged trails, you'll witness the interplay of light and shadow on the breathtaking landscape, making the Old Man of Storr a true testament to Mother Nature's artistry.

The climb itself is best done in the morning when there are less people around to fully enjoy the beautiful expanse that opens up when you reach the top. The photo here is taken just to the side of The Old Man himself.

Dunvegan Castle: A Glimpse into Highland History

Unravel the pages of Scotland's past within the walls of Dunvegan Castle, the oldest continuously inhabited castle in the country. On the shores of Loch Dunvegan, this ancestral seat of the MacLeod clan invites you to explore its opulent interiors, lush gardens, and even boasts a fairy flag with its own legendary tale.

As much as I love the imposing present of the castle itself on the waters edge, the gardens, to me, offering the most spectacular view. There’s a waterfall, a river and flowers of every colour!

It would be enough for half a day to be discovering the stories of the castles predecessors and walking blissfully through the garden.

Fairy Glen: Where Dreams Take Shape

Step into a realm of enchantment at the Fairy Glen, a surreal landscape where reality seems to blur with fantasy. The miniature grassy hills, labyrinthine pathways, and curious conical mounds have earned this place its whimsical name.

Legend has it that fairies themselves reside here, adding an extra layer of magic to the experience. Whether you're exploring the intriguing spiral castle or simply basking in the tranquility, the Fairy Glen is an ethereal escape that captures the imagination.

It’s a great spot for a picnic but remember to bring your midgy spray! Keep the younger kids safe as there are a fair few places to fall.

Portree: Colourful Harbour and Charming Town

I was surprised by the beauty of Portree when I first arrived, as I thought the only spot to marvel at was the one of the harbour and the multi-coloured houses. The truth is there is a lot to discover in albeit a small town! I recommend climbing the hill and taking in the view from the tower at the top!

Portree is the largest town on the Isle of Skye. Its pastel-hued buildings embrace the harbour, creating a picturesque scene that's a joy to explore. Stroll along the waterfront, discover local boutiques and galleries, and savour fresh seafood in cosy eateries.

As the cultural heart of Skye, Portree offers both relaxation and a taste of island life at its most inviting.

Lealt Falls

Lealt Falls: Nature's Cascading Symphony

Prepare to be mesmerised by the cascading beauty of Lealt Falls, located along the Trotternish Peninsula. A network of trails leads you to viewpoints that provide stunning vistas of the falls as they plummet into the sea. The dramatic cliffs and the wild beauty of the surroundings make Lealt Falls a captivating testament to Skye's untamed nature.

There is a lovely view point that you’ll see from the road that elevates you above the waterfalls a bit, but I would say the best views come from going closer to the ravines edge. Of course, this is much more dangerous and caution is advised!! There is even a path that heads almost vertically down, this is certainly not for everyone!

What more to say other than the Isle of Skye is definitely worth the hype! I realised while travelling around the island that it is one of the most famous locations on Scotland for a reason.

The Isle of Skye beckons adventurers, history enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike with its diverse array of attractions. From the enigmatic formations of the Old Man of Storr to the captivating legends of Dunvegan Castle, the Isle of Skye promises an exploration of Scotland's most alluring facets.

So, set forth on your journey to this island paradise and let Skye cast its spell on you, leaving you with memories that will forever whisper of its breathtaking allure.
