Private Tour Itinerary
Your day begins at the designated pick-up location in Edinburgh, where your guide will welcome you on board. As we set off, enjoy insights into Scotland’s capital and its notable landmarks, including Edinburgh Castle and other sights around the city.
Leaving Edinburgh, we cross the iconic Queensferry Bridge, the newest of the three bridges spanning the River Forth. Take in the stunning views over the Firth of Forth as we make our way toward the east coast of Scotland.
Coastal Walk in the Village of Elie
Our first stop is the charming village of Elie, where locals often play cricket on the beach when the tide is low. Here, we’ll enjoy a short coastal walk, passing the historic Lady’s Tower and lighthouse. Soak in the spectacular coastal views stretching over the Firth of Forth and out to the North Sea.
Returning to the van, we continue eastward, passing through the picturesque fishing villages of the East Neuk. Your guide will point out the unique character of these coastal communities, offering a glimpse into Scotland’s rich maritime history.
Exploring St Andrews: History, Golf, and Heritage
Arrival in St Andrews: Mid-morning
Welcome to St Andrews, a town steeped in history! Enjoy ample time to explore this enchanting town, visiting the ancient cathedral and castle, which provide insights into the area’s remarkable past. Discover the University of St Andrews, one of the oldest in the world, and don’t miss the famous Old Course, the birthplace of golf.
It’s time to refuel! Your guide will recommend some excellent local eateries where you can enjoy a relaxed lunch before we begin our journey back.
Loch Leven National Nature Reserve
As we leave St Andrews, we head inland toward the beautiful Loch Leven National Nature Reserve. Here, we’ll take a short walk to a scenic viewpoint overlooking Lochleven Castle, a site visited by Mary Queen of Scots during her reign. Your guide will share stories of the castle’s intriguing history and its connections to Scottish royalty.
Dunfermline Abbey
Our last stop of the day is Dunfermline, officially Scotland’s newest city. Here, you’ll visit Dunfermline Abbey, a historical site where some of Scotland’s most influential monarchs are laid to rest—including the famous King Robert the Bruce (Robert I), a hero of the Wars of Independence. (Please note: Dunfermline Abbey is closed until March 31, 2025.)
Return to Edinburgh
After an inspiring day filled with history, beautiful landscapes, and fascinating stories, it’s time to head back to Edinburgh. Your guide will drop you off at the morning pick-up location.
