Blackness Castle

Located on the shores of the Firth of Forth, Blackness Castle is a historic fortress that stands strong against the backdrop of the river. Built in the 15th century, it was originally a residence for the powerful Crichton family, later serving as a military stronghold. Over time, Blackness also became a prison and was even used as a location for naval operations.

Visitors can explore the castle’s well-preserved towers and courtyards, taking in the views of the river and nearby coastline. Inside, you’ll find a glimpse of its history through exhibits that reveal its role in Scotland’s past. The castle’s unique position, jutting out into the water, adds to its charm, making it an interesting stop for those traveling through the area.

Blackness Castle has also featured in films, including Outlander, adding a touch of modern-day fame.
