    Arrive 8:15am, pick-up at 8:30am in Edinburgh.

Starting our journey from Edinburgh, we set our course northward towards the serene woodlands of Perthshire. Here, in the renowned "Big Tree Country," we embark on a stroll, passing by the enchanting Black Linn pools and falls, cocooned within the fairy-tale forest.

Resuming our adventure, we head to the awe-inspiring landscapes of Glenshee, a region characterised by its dramatic Highland scenery. Then off to Balmoral castle, found within a breathtaking natural landscape, we explore the royal gardens and the surroundings that have captivated both Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II.

Continuing our Highlands journey, we journey through Cairngorms National Park, Scotland's largest and youngest national park. Our journey takes us to the picturesque highland town of Grantown-on-Spey, where we’ll walk along the banks of the River Spey, through native Scots Pine woodlands and keeping an eye out for the endangered Capercaillie bird.

Our exploration leads us to a haunting site, witness to one of Scotland's bloodiest battles—the Battle of Culloden, a pivotal clash during the 1745 Jacobite Uprisings. The weight of history hangs heavy in the air as we delve into the battle's backstory, its unfolding, and the strategies employed during this significant event.

Finally, we’ll proceed to our first-night accommodation in Inverness, the esteemed capital of the Scottish Highlands.

  • Highlights - Inverness - Isle of Lewis & Harris Day 2
    Inverness
    Corrieshalloch Gorge National Nature Reserve
    Ullapool
    Boat to Isle of Lewis
    Luskentyre Beach
    MacLeod’s Stone

Starting from the capital of the Highlands, Inverness, we head northwest towards Ullapool where the ferry awaits to cross the Minch to the Isle of Lewis.

Before that though, we’ll stop by a stunning little walk in the Corrieshalloch Gorge. This National Nature Reserve is a very special place. Breathe in the pine-scented fresh air and allow the sounds of water and nature to hypnotise your senses.

After the meditative gorge walk, we’ll jump back into the vehicle and swiftly depart for Ullapool, where the ferry will be waiting to take us across the sea to Stornoway.

The ferry will approximately take around 2 hours, so bring some binoculars. The observation deck is the best place to look out for whales and dolphins as we cross the Minch.

Once we have arrived and disembarked into Stornoway, we head straight for the mountainous region of Harris. The stunning scenery will leave you awe-struck with the brilliant white sand beaches and high mountain peaks.

Speaking of white sandy beaches, let’s stop at one of the most spectacular on the island, Luskentyre. If we get lucky with the weather, you’ll feel like you’re in the Bahamas, it is simply stunning.

After a wee saunter along the beach, we’ll head off to a walk across another spectacular spot on the island, MacLeod’s Stone. Here we take in even more inspiring scenery visiting a lone standing stone commanding the views over more white beaches.

After all this exploring, we now head back to Stornoway and check into our accommodation for the night.

  • Highlights of Isle of Lewis Day 3
    Stornoway
    Butt of Lewis
    Gearrannan Blackhouse Village
    Dun Carloway Broch
    Callanish Standing Stones

Departing from Stornoway, we begin our day’s adventures with a walk at the Port of Ness, taking in the stunning scenery surrounding the small village.

Now it’s time to head off towards the most northwestern point of the British Isle, the Butt of Lewis. Before that though we’ll stop by the beautiful St Moluag’s Church.

Apparently, the Butt of Lewis is the windiest part of anywhere in Britain, so if you’re wearing a hat on the day, maybe leave it behind in the vehicle. The views around the lighthouse are breathtaking and the rugged seacliffs are incredible.

From the lighthouse, we take a stroll along the seacliffs to a pristine white sand beach, Eoropie Beach. The relaxing crash of waves on the shore will mesmerise you.

Clach An Truishal is said to be Scotland’s tallest standing stone. We’ll swing by it on the way down to the Shieling Barvas and Brue hut, which was built to give us an idea of what a shieling hut looked like.

In Arnol, the Blackhouse gives us an intriguing insight into the island lifestyle that once covered Lewis. The house used to shelter not just the owners, but their farm animals too. Imagine the smell!

A short drive away is a very curious landmark, not many would have heard of. The Whalebone Arch has an amazing story behind its placement at the wrought iron gates in the village of Bragar.

Another short distance down the road is our next destination, the Norse Mill & Kiln. A short walk down to the restored mill and kiln takes in stunning views across the loch, plus inside the buildings, you’ll get a sense of daily working life in these brilliant examples.

Gearrannan Blackhouse Village gives us another look into this fascinating lifestyle, but this village was inhabited up until the 1970s! The views from this area would have made it hard to leave, they are simply breathtaking.

Now we step back in time over 2000 years ago whilst visiting our next stop, Dun Carloway Broch. A broch is a circular stone structure that is unique to Scotland and Dun Carloway is one of the best examples.

Not many brochs survived the weathering on the island, but Dun Carloway still has a 9-metre tall section which stands close to its original height!

Saving possibly the best stop til last! Everyone has been waiting all day for it, but we’re finally heading towards Callanish Standing Stones. The stones predate England's Stonehenge, dating back to around 5,000 years ago!

These outstanding stones really are an incredible feast for the imagination. They are Scotland’s best-preserved Neolithic monuments with even more secrets buried in the peat soil that surrounds the landscape.

Once all our Outlander fans have done their best Clair impression, we now head back to the vehicle and back to Stornoway for the rest of the evening.

  • Highlights - Isle of Lewis - Inverness Day 4
    Boat back to the Mainland
    Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve
    The Falls of Shin
    Glenmorangie Distillery*
    Stunning Highland Landscapes

Embarking on the ship, we head off towards the main of Scotland. With another approximately 2 hours of sailing, we can head for the observation deck or simply relax inside.

After we’ve arrived back on the mainland, we travel north to a place where continents literally collided millions of years ago. Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve is a fascinating site with its geology and jaw-dropping views across Assynt towards the northwest highlands of Scotland.

After a stroll around the incredible Knockan Crag, Now we hop back in the vehicle and drive past sensational scenery through the Northern Highlands of Scotland, to the Falls of Shin. A beautiful setting of woodland and waterfalls make this a magical stop.

What’s even more magical at the Falls of Shin, there is a possibility to witness the salmon leaping with the river to the spawning grounds further upstream.

To top off our return journey to Inverness, our final stop will take in some fabulous water of life! A distillery tour of Glenmorangie is definitely the perfect ending to what has been a brilliant 3 days of adventure.

After tasting the delicious whisky, we now travel south, back towards Inverness, the Capital of the Highlands, where we’ll be staying for the night.

*Attractions can be subject to change depending on availability.

  • Highlights - Inverness - Edinburgh Day 5

    Loch Ness Cruise

    Glencoe

Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park

    City of Edinburgh

Leaving the Capital of the Highlands, we continue our journey south towards Edinburgh. Not without passing by one of the most famous lochs in the country!

Now we jump onto another boat, but this time it’s a cruise along Loch Ness with stunning views towards the most picturesque ruined castle in Scotland (in our opinion), Urquhart Castle.

Once we’ve completed our cruise, we’ll stop by the beautiful highland town, Fort Augustus, where the famous Caledonian Canal system runs through the middle of the town.

There’s no time to lose! We’re off again down towards quite possibly, the most majestic part of the Highlands of Scotland, Glencoe.

We’ll make some stops as we travel through this awe-inspiring landscape, where you’ll learn about Hidden Valleys, the MacDonald Clan who called Glencoe home and how a tragic event caused the first Jacobite Uprising.

We descend down into our second national park of the whole journey, Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park. Cutting across the top of the national park, following the River Dochart, we head for the tranquil highland village of Killin.

The Falls of Dochart flow down the cascading falls through the village and exit out into Loch Tay. Exploring you’ll discover fascinating geological formations when the water level is low enough.

Balquhidder Glen is our next destination, where our final hike of the day will reveal one of the national parks' best viewpoints. Taking in this magnificent landscape, we head for the small church that was our starting point of the hike.

This is the resting place of Robert “Rob Roy” MacGregor, who is seen as the Scottish Robin Hood and was an outlaw before he was born! His story will be told in the beautiful setting of the churchyard.

We now head south to complete our journey and finish in the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh.

Here our tour will conclude between 7-8pm.
