Boat to the Isle of Islay
Arrive 8:15am, pick-up at 8:30 in Glasgow.
Our tour meeting point will be Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city. From here we’ll head north into Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park.
Taking in the astonishing landscape of the national park, you’ll learn about the dividing line that runs from the east coast of Scotland to the west coast, separating the Highlands and Lowlands of Scotland.
The stunning drive up along the loch’s western shoreline will be a feast for the eyes. Now we reach our turning point and head out west towards the coast.
Once out of the national park, our next stop will be at a very unique castle. Owned currently by the clan chief of Clan Campbell, who were at one point in time the most powerful clan in the country, Inveraray Castle is definitely a must-see when travelling along the west coast.
After exploring this very special castle, we head towards another not far away from our ferry terminal, the Royal Castle of Tarbert. Now in ruins, this beautifully situated ruin holds stunning views over the small town of Tarbert and a fascinating history.
Now it’s time to head for our ferry crossing to Islay! The ferry will be approx. 2 hours and once we’ve disembarked we’ll head straight to your accommodation

Highlights - Isle of Islay - Edinburgh Day 4
Kilmartin Glen
Oban
Kilchurn Castle
Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National ParkIt’s an early start heading off the island, catching the ferry across to the mainland. Leaving Kennacraig ferry terminal on the mainland, we head north towards a fascinating part of the west coast, Kilmartin Glen.
Dunnad Fort will be our first stop heading through this amazing glen. This stunning little hill fort was once a powerful and influential centre of the ancient kingdom of Dal Riata, spanning from Ireland.
Now it’s onto our next stop, just down the road, Nether Largie standing stones. We’ll wander through the field past these incredible timeworn stones before heading off to our next point of interest.
Who said the whisky had to stop Islay?! We are now off to the seafood capital of Scotland, Oban, where we’ll take the tour around Oban distillery.
Once we’ve had our fill of the water of life, we venture off towards a castle that was once the ancestral home of Clan Campbell, Kilchurn Castle.
This incredible ruin sits at the head of Scotland’s longest freshwater loch, Loch Awe, and is surrounded by jaw-dropping mountains. It really is a special place.
It’s back to the vehicle and off into Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park, to explore the stunning cascading waterfalls in Killin, the Falls of Dochart.
This gorgeous highland village is on the edge of the national park boundary and right next to Loch Tay, where the falls flow into. The falls make a natural salmon ladder, so if timed right, we could see some flying fish!
After all that exploring, it’s now time to continue our journey south towards Edinburgh, where our tour will come to an end.
End between 7-8pm in Edinburgh
