The Glasgow to Isle of Skye 3-Day Tour

There’s nowhere quite like the Isle of Skye.

It’s dramatic landscapes seem ready to swallow the sea & everywhere you turn there’s another jaw-dropping view.

From Glasgow to Skye: first we travel up the Highlands of Scotland and visit must-see places like; Loch Lomond, Glencoe, Glenfinnan (think Harry Potter) & the photogenic Eilean Donan Castle.

Then comes a full day of exploration on Skye; Old Man of Storr, Dunvegan Castle, Kilt Rock and much more!

You will never forget this trip!

  • Highlights - Glasgow - Isle of Skye Day 1
Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park
    Rannoch Moor
    Glencoe
    Replica of Historic Turf House
Glenfinnan Viaduct (Harry Potter Train Bridge)
Boat to the Isle of Skye

    Arrive 8:15am, pick-up at 8:30 in Glasgow.

We’ll be travelling through Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park and heading straight for the Highlands of Scotland.

Crossing the Highland Boundary Fault line, the scenery will dramatically change from the cityscape and open farmland to high mountains and dramatic peaks.

Travelling up along the western shores of Loch Lomond, the panoramic views will amaze you and be a feast for the eyes.

Once we have left the National Park, we’ll continue travelling north into a very well know (world-famous) part of Scotland, full of outstanding scenery and fascinating history, Glencoe.

Pulling over at Rannoch Moor viewpoint and the Three Sisters of Glencoe, you’ll begin to understand how this glen is one of the last remaining wildernesses in the country. Its vast and remote moors seem to never end.

The Glencoe Visitor Centre has a replica Turf & Creel house which has a fascinating insight into the past life of folk living in Glencoe.

After saying our goodbyes to Glencoe, we’ll drive through a town that sits at the foot of the UK’s highest mountain (Ben Nevis), Fort William. Considered to be the Outdoor capital of Scotland, you’ll learn about its important position for the Jacobite Uprisings.

From here, we head west towards another very famous spot in Glenfinnan, the Glenfinnan Train Viaduct or the Harry Potter bridge. Here is where you’ll hear about Bonnie Prince Charlie, and how his involvement in the Jacobite Uprisings of 1745 ended in a bloody tragedy, which stills us to this day.

Now it’s time to head straight for our ferry in the beautiful little seaside town of Mallaig. Our objective of the day now starts to come into view for the first time, the Isle of Skye!

Our crossing will take roughly 30 minutes on the ferry, and after we’ve disembarked the vessel, our day's journey will come to an end at our first-night accommodations, in the stunning town of Portree.

  • Highlights of Isle of Skye Day 2
Dunvegan Castle- (Closed mid October - March)
    Old Man of Storr
    Fairy Glen
    Portree
    Kilt Rock
    Lealt Falls
    Duntulm Castle

We hope everyone is as excited as we will be to explore the Isle of Skye! Departing Portree for the day, the first stop of the day will be on the northwest of the island, Dunvegan Castle.

Owned by clan chiefs of Clan MacLeod of MacLeod for centuries, you’ll explore the stunning castle and learn about the fairy folk and what clan chief married a Fairy Queen!

Now it’s time to head further north onto the Trotternish Peninsula, where we’ll be driving past a world-famous landmark, the Old Man of Storr. The pinnacle rock was part of Britain's largest landslip ever recorded.

A quick drive past the Old Man and we arrive at our next stop, Kilt Rock & Mealt Falls. The stunning basalt rock columns create the illusion of a kilt on the cliff face.

Driving around the top of the island, a ruined castle with stunning scenery will come into view. Duntulm Castle was fought over for centuries by the MacLeod’s and MacDonald’s, and it’s not hard to understand why.

The MacDonald’s eventually got the upper hand and held the castle for a time, but you’ll hear about a tragic accident that took place within its halls. On a clear day, we’ll be able to make out the islands of North Uist and Harris off in the distance across the body of water known as The Minch.

Now we start heading back towards Portree, but on the way, we’ll be heading towards our final stop of the day, the mythical Fairy Glen. The landscape does hold some strange feelings, it’s like walking around a fantasy movie set.

After sauntering around this fascinating site, we head back to the vehicle and onward to Portree, where the day's adventures will conclude.

  • Highlights - Isle of Skye - Edinburgh Day 3
    Eilean Donan Castle
(Closed January and on occasional wedding dates)
    Loch Ness
    Cruise on Loch Ness
    Nature Reserve Walk
    Cairngorms National Park
    Pitlochry

Today we leave this stunning island, taking scenes such as the awe-inspiring mountain ranges of the Red & Black Cullins, the old Sligichan Bridge, and the Isle of Raasay.

We depart the island via the Skye Bridge, which was opened in October 1995 and became one of two main, all-year-round, main routes on and off the island.

Our first stop is at a world-famous castle, Eilean Donan Castle. The dramatic setting of this castle was the perfect location to defend the water highways from invading Vikings and store magazines of gunpowder guarded by Spanish troops during the Jacobite Uprisings.

After exploring this incredible place, we head further east, inland towards the beautiful highland town of Fort Augustus. Here there is a chance to go on an optional cruise to search for the creature that haunts Loch Ness to this day!

Once we have refuelled ourselves, our journey continues on to a spectacular walk which is in the heart of the Highlands of Scotland. Creag Meagaidh National Nature Reserve is a remarkable example of a rewilding project.

Musing through the ancient woodland does send the imagination into a frenzy, trying to find where all the fairy folk live. The mountain scenery and Loch Laggan add to the ever-growing remote feeling.

Once we have taken in all the astounding scenery of this nature reserve, we now begin to head south towards Edinburgh, where the tour will conclude. But first, we’ll be swinging by Pitlochry.

The Highland village is the perfect spot to grab some refreshments and learn about Queen Victoria’s influence on the town's tourism. It was her favoured opinion that really boosted the now popular town.

Now it’s time to head south to our drop-off point, Edinburgh.

Here our tour will conclude between 7-8pm.
